Future talent celebrated at graduation event

Aldermaston, UK – October 9, 2025
AWE has marked a major milestone in its early careers programme with the graduation of 35 apprentices. The event celebrated the achievements of individuals who have completed programmes across a range of technical disciplines and who now join the workforce supporting one of the UK’s most critical national security missions.

The evening brought together graduates, mentors, managers, and families to recognise the dedication, resilience and growth of AWE’s newest talent.

These graduates will go on to maintain systems and perfect components that may never be seen but will protect millions.

Supporting the Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD)

AWE’s apprentices are trained to operate in some of the most complex and high-consequence environments in the country. Their work directly supports the UK’s Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD), ensuring that the nation’s nuclear warheads are designed, manufactured and maintained to the highest standards of safety and reliability.

The graduation event aligns with AWE’s delivery of the Astraea warhead programme, part of a £15 billion investment confirmed in the 2025 Strategic Defence Review. This next-generation capability will be developed entirely within the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty era, relying on advanced simulation, engineering and scientific innovation, all of which depend on a skilled and growing workforce.

Chief People Officer Meg encouraged graduates to embrace new challenges. “Don’t be afraid to try new things,” she said. “Your journey is just beginning, and the possibilities ahead are vast.”
