Office for Nuclear Regulation investigation findings

Today, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) announced its investigation findings following the fatality of a Balfour Beatty employee in 2023, who was working in a construction enclave on AWE’s Aldermaston site. The incident was a conventional health and safety matter, and there was no radiological risk to the public. Throughout the investigation, AWE has supported the ONR, Thames Valley Police and Balfour Beatty.

The ONR has confirmed that AWE plc will not be recommended for prosecution in this matter.

The safety and security of our people, our communities, and our sites is always our top priority.

Our thoughts remain with the family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.
