AWE celebrates International Women in Engineering Day

Colleagues from across AWE celebrated International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) today, recognising the contributions and impact of women across our engineering community.

Bringing colleagues together

The event brought together women from across the business, alongside Christina Brugger: Chartered Engineer, Product Leader and the Founder of Keys to Impact. It created a valuable space to share experiences, build connections and reflect on the role we all play in supporting an inclusive, high-performing engineering environment.

A series of engaging talks provided insight and inspiration, including sessions on ‘The Science of Power and Influence‘ and ‘Engineering Intelligence at AWE‘. Together, they emphasised both the individual and collective strengths of our people who underpin our engineering capability.

Reflections on the day

Mandy Savage, Executive Director of Engineering at AWE, highlighted the importance of the day:

“It was fantastic to see colleagues coming together to celebrate International Women in Engineering Day. Events like this highlight the depth of talent we have across AWE and reinforce the importance of creating an environment where everyone can thrive, contribute and grow. By supporting and recognising women in engineering, we are strengthening our organisation for the future.”

The message is clear: there is still more to do, but the direction is positive. Creating a truly inclusive environment where women in engineering can thrive is not a one-off event; it is something we must continue to build every day through our actions and support for one another.

Why it matters

Moments like this matter. They build connections, increase visibility and demonstrate what is possible. By continuing to listen, learn and challenge, we can keep moving forward – ensuring everyone has the opportunity to contribute and succeed.

A huge thank you goes to the team who organised the event. Their commitment, energy and attention to detail created a space where people could connect, share experiences and feel part of something bigger. It is through efforts like these that we continue to strengthen our community and shape a more inclusive future for engineering at AWE.
