Mark Hedges

Executive Director, Estates and Liabilities

Mark Hedges began his career at AWE in 1985, as a Craft Apprentice on the, then, 4-year scheme. Following this, he undertook several roles across the Maintenance and Engineering areas of the business, before progressing into Engineering Management and Facility Operations. His time within Facility Operations included Facilities Management and supporting the transition of several facilities out of Operations into Decommissioning; as part of the overall legacy programme at AWE. After several years in this role, Mark progressed into the Programme and Project management area of the business including Head of Decommissioning at AWE, before taking on the role as the overall Site Programme Manager.

Mark then spent a number of years within the Site Function, setting up the Estate Strategy and Planning office, before taking on the role of Site Director in June 2018. Following this, he took on the Fissile Delivery Director within COO organisation until early 2023.

In April of 2023, Mark moved across to become the Director Estates and Liabilities, re-establishing the Decommissioning, Demolition and Waste programmes of work. A year on, April 2024, he has become Executive Director Estate and Liabilities. This role continues to ignite his passionate outlook for driving changes, to ensure AWE’s Sites are a nicer place to be.

Mark is married with two sons, and he enjoys travelling and all types of sport; both playing and watching
