80 years ago, the European part of the Second World War came to an end. On the 8th of May 1945 - known as Victory in Europe Day or VE Day - celebrations erupted around the world to mark this.  Aldermaston had played its part in the liberation of Western Europe as it formed the launch point and training ground for American airborne operations for the 101st Airborne Division, nicknamed the "Screaming Eagles”, during D-Day a year earlier and the failed Operation Market Garden.

AWE is pleased to announce that we will be exhibiting at DPRTE, the UK’s leading defence procurement and supply chain event.

It’s been over 100 days since we partnered with adoption and trauma recovery charity, Parents and Children Together (PACT).  In that short time, AWE colleagues have learnt about the vital services the charity provides and the positive impact it has on those it supports, while arranging and taking part in several volunteering and fundraising activities.  

Here we meet three amazing female scientists in a quickfire interview, asking them to share their experiences of working at AWE, and why being a woman in the company hasn’t held them back.

As we reflect upon British Science Week’s theme of Change and Adaptation, we want to share how both investment in our facilities and safe decommissioning will ensure AWE continues to meet the future needs of the United Kingdom’s nuclear deterrent.

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It’s also about raising awareness of gender equality. At AWE we are passionate about recognising and celebrating it.
